The MoMA (as it's known by locals) is the most influential modern art museum in the world. Housing arguably the best collection of contemporary Western masterpieces, it is an inspiring way to lose yourself for an afternoon—or an entire day.

Please read the following: Van Gogh’s The Starry Night is at the Museum of Modern Art! Who doesn’t love this painting?!

More like a sanctuary than a museum, The Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan has earned its reputation as the greatest collection of modern art in the world, and this world-famous institution is well worth the trip for anyone visiting New York City. An inspirational building in its own rite, filled with light and contemporary space and design, MoMA houses such masterpieces as Claude Monet’s Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond, and Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans. That’s right, many of those pieces you perhaps thought of as classics are actually modern art! Not limited to the insanely abstract; MoMA holds the works of such masters as Paul Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, and Paul Cézanne.

Comments about Smart Destinations Museum of Modern Art:

This review comes with a disclaimer: I'm not much for art museums. Personally, I'd rather go do something less...artsy? At the same time, we visited this museum at the end of our trip and only had an hour to go through it. This all being said: I liked it! They had so many non-traditional exhibits that it really caught my interest. And at the same time, the simple Campbell's soup painting (which we've all read about in school) was probably my favorite of all. So I just might have to make my way back during my next trip to NYC Big bonus (especially since we were short on time): we went on President's Day and the line was a mile long. Explorer's Pass let us skip that line and go to will call to pick up our tickets. Awesome feature!
